Greetings From Lexington, Va.

Well, we've safely arrived at the hotel in Lexington, which is on the edge of town. It's a beautiful late afternoon here, and the drive was blissfully uneventful. Jane and I (Karen) are sharing a room, the guys are across the hall, and the four girls are next to us. From our fourth-floor window we have a beautiful view of the mountains.
We drove right through history on the way down. My sister emailed to say that Chambersburg, Pa., where we had our brown-bag lunches, was the site of a Civil War battle. (She also let us know that my 5th great grandfather and grandmother are buried in Greencastle, just south of our lunch site. We should have brought Aunt Debbie on the trip. She's very useful and informative!) We saw from the road the site of the Battle at New Market, and several other Civil War venues.
The kids are all in the hot tub, Jane's gone to WalMart to buy replacement boots for the ones left behind, and Patrick is hanging in the room, though I expect he may end up in the pool before long.
We're planning to drive into downtown Lexington in about an hour to look around a bit and have dinner at a local spot. Then, we're very much hoping to go on Lexington's Ghost Tour at 8:30 p.m. Things we're expecting to see: the burial place of Stonewall Jackson; the ghost of Gen. Lee's horse, Traveler; the "tormented spirit of Phil Nunn"; and the "house of eight ghosts."
Thanks for letting us borrow your kids for the week. We're already having a great time with them.
More later ---- K.P.
